Welcome to Cluck and Grunt

Kune Kune PigsCluck and Grunt are UK breeders of Kune Kune pigs based in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.  We are registered by DEFRA and we are also members of the British Kune Kune Pig Society.

Kune Kune pigs (pronounced "Cooney Cooney") originated from New Zealand, the literal translation of "kunekune" in the Māori language is "fat and round".  By the 1980s there were only around 50 purebred Kune Kune pigs left in New Zealand.  A successful breeding programme was put in place to increase the numbers and these lovely creatures are happily no longer in danger of extinction.

Kune Kune pigs are very friendly, they love human company and are easy to train, hence why they are becoming increasingly popular as pets.  Kune Kunes are covered in long hair which can be straight, wavy or curly.  There are different colour combinations including black, brown, gold, ginger and cream, and there are also spotted varieties.  The fully grown pigs stand around 60 cm tall and weigh around 65-100 kg, they have shorter, rounder bodies than commercial pigs.  A special feature of Kune Kune pigs are the two tassels called piri piri which hang from their lower jaw, however, not every Kune Kune has these tassels and they have been known to drop off.
